Thank you for all of your prayers as our little one went through her little "acute crisis". It was probably one of the scariest things I ever witnessed.
For those of you who don't know what happened. Our little Hiwa - was rushed to the animal hospital on Sunday morning - she was continuously throwing up, till the point blood was coming out - then she couldn't stand anymore, I caught her just before she fell to the ground. When we got to the (ah) - she was "rolling" over herself and was foaming at the mouth. YES, I was TOTALLY flipping out by then. Especially when the tech came out to triage and told me that I had to sit and wait with Hiwa until the Dr. is available. She wasn't urgent enough. So as we were "waiting" the reception desk people must have seen how Hiwa was acting and immediately came over and took Hiwa to get assessed by a Dr.
The Dr.'s initial diagnosis was that she had an inner ear infection which affected her equilibrium - thus the rolling, frothing, vomit... etc. She was then admitted immediately and they began treatment.
By the next day, we found that her blood work up was really serious - her protein was very low and her glucose was in the 300's - rather than the normal 100 range. Her body was literally shutting down by dumping inappropriate things into her blood stream. They heavily sedated her and ran more tests. By that evening- everything leveled off and she was heading in a more positive direction. When we visited with her Monday evening, she was able to drink and eat on her own (when we were there) - but wasn't resting because she was so anxious. They needed to sedate her again that evening so that she could rest (i think the techs needed the quiet too).
Then, when we all went down to visit again Tuesday afternoon - they discharged her. I felt better that HER Dr. - the awesome Dr. Yasuda, was in that day and able to look in on her. So she is now home - still off balanced, bumping into everything - but at least she is eating, sleeping and is at HOME!
Thank you all for your love, support and encouraging words! We are still waiting on a few tests to come back - so we aren't in the clear yet - but Dr. Yasuda said that it would take a while for her to be back to "normal".
